offered is a fabulous 1926 ronson gold plate banjo automatic pocket petrol lighter. the banjo with its fancy shape body is the worlds first automatic one motion lighter. the banjo was invented by louis v. aronson in 1926 and quickly evolved into the 1927 delight automatic. most banjo lighters are found in silver plate and this is only the second gold plate model ever offered on ebay. the first gold plated banjo had a crinkle finish and was different than this engine turned version. i would say gold plated banjo's are almost 100 times rarer than a silver plated version. this exact lighter originally came from the ronson archives and i purchased it from a ronson vice president. the banjo measures 2-3/8" tall and is in good used condition. the mechanism fulcrum screw is slightly loose and the mechanism has weak action. it will need service for mechanism to be in working order. the gold plated finish has mild age and a what looks to be a small plating spot missing on the fuel screw. this rare and exciting colorway for the worlds first one motion automatic is vintage 1926 and not a recent reproduction. if you are a serious ronson collector - it is an important addition to your collection. if the mechanism were perfect - i would open the auction much higher. overall - a wonderful rare pocket ronson lighter for the best of collections. sold as a collectible. insurance included in usa ship cost - overseas is registered first class international .
