These are some of the most eyecatching and impressive bookends you will ever see and a must for the serious collector. They are by the famous Ronson Company, circa 1930, and show the Queen of the Nile, perhaps Cleopatra, in full art deco egyptian revival glory. These are large, measuring 7 inches long by almost as high and weighing a big over 10 pounds the pair. They are of heavy pot metal and finished in a combination of polychrome paint and gilded bronze. They are fully figural or three dimensionall meaning they look even larger and can be displayed nicely from many angles. The finish is all orignal with very little loss and has those trademark Ronson colors of blood red, brilliant sky blue and emerald green. The base is as ornate as the pharaoh queen with and egyptian slave or water bearer on each end of the tomb, a nice trim up top of mosaic colors, and the entrance to the tomb itself that the queen is pushing against. The entrance has the egyptian horus and sun god symbol over the door. The queen of the nile wears a long, elaborate crimson flowing gown and veil, with elaborate embroidered details on the tunic. The only damage on these is so slight, the smallest separation w the hands of the queen touch the wall, I have pictured it but you have to really look for it. These are in unusually nice condition and are very rare. Kuritzky, in his "Encyclopedia of Bookends", rates them at the highest rarity, especially in this polychrome edition, at number 5. Guaranteed to be old, genuine and original. Please see my other auctions for more antique and vintage bookends and doorstops that I will combine on shipping whenever possible.
