A uction D escription Up for your consideration is another pair of Bookends that is a must have for any collector. This is a famous design that has been produced by makers such as Dodge and K & O. However, this variety surpasses them all, being made by the JB Hirsch Foundry circa 1932. It was this foundry that brought back to life the French version made originally by the renowned Riviere, whose original piece was entitled "Hold Those Books." This Hirsch pair has the Clumsy Librarian positioned on a large, smooth, and solid piece of jet black, polished stone, complete with an Ivory painted head, which serves as a throwback to the artists that used ivorine inserts for the most gorgeous of pairs. These bookends depict a well-defined, prominent, classic gent, who, by his dress, looks as though he is fairly distinguished and may have it all together in his real life, but he is certainly having a hard time trying to maintain those volumes of books that are falling haphazardly. I guess it does go to show that no matter w one falls on the social strata, we can all be equalized by biting off more than we can chew--just as this gent does with all those books! W was his common sense! Now, these are in excellent condition, I am pleased to say. The gilded bronze finish still shines like new, and the books and the gentlemen are all nicely read more
