Up for auction from my Mother's estate is this Japanese Tea Set. She bought this set on a trip to Japan in 1956. She visited the Nippon Factory and bought a number of sets, this one is still in its original box. White porcelain with an overlay of handpainted coral paint. Gorgeous silver white rose handpainted on each piece. All of the pieces were still wrapped in their original tissue which is now quite brittle but I will include it. I have attached the rattan type covered metal handle for picture taking. This set consists of one teapot with 5 lidded cups. I have been told that the Japanese consider 6 to be an unlucky number, tfore only 5 cups make the set and it is not missing a cup. The spout to this pot has a rubber protector and I have not taken it off, I will leave that up to the highest bidder. Excellent condition, the inside lip to this pot looks as if it has a chip but I believe that it is a flaw with the manufacturing. The 5 cups are all covered and in excellent condition as well. The pot is approx. 5" tall without the handle extended, with the handle extended approx. 7 1/4" tall. The width is approx. 6" from spout to end. The cups are each approx. 3 1/2" tall with lids on. The bottom of both the teapot and the cups are in Japanese characters. The box reads: Noritake China, t are Japanese characters and in English reads: NIPPON TOKI KAISHA with a type of logo in the middle. T is also a label which reads: Noritake China Card No. 4789 Packer's No. 39. I also read on the box: B56/6667 1 Set. This is a fabulous set and a must for the collector. Thank you for your interest!!
