is an extremely rare oppurtunity to bid on a 1978 Red Wing Collector Society commemorative jug.This is one of 275 that were sold.It is front and rear stamped.On the front it says Red Wing Stoneware,1878-1978.On the back it is stamped Red Wing Collector's Society.T is quite a story behind this jug. The idea of this jug was a dream of Dave Stagner's,in 1978.This was the second year of the Red Wing Collector's Society.This jug was to be the first Red Wing commemorative,as t wasn't one in 1977.While working on these jugs,he learned that another person from Red Wing was having a commemrative made for 1977.So the first one became the second one,and the second one became the first.(I think t were only 250 of the 1977 version).He wanted to have these jugs made from clay dug from the original clay pits,and made by a potter in Red Wing ,Mn. He contacted E.Frye,who agreed to turn 300 jugs.She produced 315,and after Dave inspected them,he decided 40 needed to be destroyed.This would leave 275.He smashed the 40 "reject" jugs with a hammer ! These jugs were originally sold for $3.50.................. This jug is absolutely mint,and has the original card and tie string.Very nice example of this very hard to find 1978 Red Wing Commemorative.
