HE THAT GOES A BORROWING GOES A SORROWING / BETTER TO GO TO BED SUPPERLESS THAN RISE IN DEBT. Rare 3-color Child's Staffordshire transferware cup. Ben Franklin's Maxim is from Poor Richard's Almanac. Cup is approximately 3" high and 2-7/8" in diameter. The two red and green colored transferware illustrations appear to be very old, both in style and technique. From its age and the color of the clay, I am guessing it might be pasteware, but I am not certain. The people depicted are wearing mid-19th century clothing styles and have hairdos from the same period. This cup is not marked on the bottom, which is rather common for these child's items from the famous Staffordshire region of England. Very good condition. Non-smoking home. Please ask any questions before bidding. This item would display well with traditional English or Colonial American holiday theme. Or even with Byers characters. Item will be shipped Priority to arrive in time for holiday gift-giving. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
