BLUE LAW SURVIVAL BENIFIT (sic) [AT THE CHEETAH CLUB] POSTER . On May 17, 18, and 19 of 1968 , the Cheetah Club , at 1 Navy Street, Venice Beach, California, held a concert for the benefit of the Blue Law Night Club in Torrance, California, which was under intense pressure from the local police to close its doors. The list of bands scheduled to "star" at this benefit concert is extraordinary: Strawberry Alarm Clock, Quicksilver Messenger Service, P G & E, Sweetwater, Love Exchange, Hour Glass (Duane and Greg Allman were members), Marvellous To Witness, Things To Come, Albert King. In addition to the above bands the following bands were listed as "attractive to" the event: Notional Whimseys, Red Beans and Rice, Quodlibetical Humans, Spirit, Genesis ( surely one of Genesis ' first appearances on a poster in the U.S., as they had only recently released their first single and the release of their first album was still months away ), Touch, Mothers of Invention, H.P. Lovecraft, Triangle, East Side Kids, Copper Leaf, and Fair Befall. Quoting the text of the poster: "ATTN: THE ACTS WILL PERFORM ON THE NIGHT/ ACCORDING TO THEIR AVAILABILITY."
