Up for auction is an 8" Atterbury Hen on Nest in milk glass on smooth rim base. Shirley Smith has it valued in her Glass Hen on Nest Covered Dishes book (2007) at $100 - $175. I'm assuming that that would be for one in mint condition with both eyes. This one has a few chips, I've tried to picture the worst ones. T's one to the tip of the tail, one inside the tail, one by each of the rear eggs and one to the inside rim of the base. Then t's a very few fleabites and some minor mould roughness. All the chips are slivers of missing glass (none are deep). The biggest one is the one on the top of the tail and it looks worse in the picture because of the camera's flash. It only measures 1/4" long by 1/8" wide at the widest point and it's triangular in shape. T's very few stress cracks to the bottom edge of the hen, none are deep and all are tight. Inside the hen t's purplish glass up by the tail area, it doesn't show through (if only this were slag). The hen is missing both eyes and is in very good condition taking in account that Atterbury was in business from 1859 - 1898 (or 1903?) Made in USA. It's in very good condition, no major chips or cracks. I have other items for sell and will gladly combine shipping, for each additional item add .75 to the first item's shipping charges. Thanks for looking and God Bless. Check out my other items !
