Hello from PumpkinPiePantry This is a fantastic find. Titled "A Nod to Abe" , this nodder salt and pepper set was designed by Betty Harrington, the primary designer for Ceramic Arts Studio, Madison, WI. Only 400 sets were made exclusively for the 1991 S&P Convention. The set was produced by Regal China Corp, who ceased operation in 1992. Set measures 6 1/4" across x 5 1/4" to top of Abe's hat, marked on the back " 6th S&P Convention 1991 Chicago Illinois Designed by: BH", marked on base " Regal China USA." Purchased from the original owner, the set has never been displayed. It is free of chips and cracks. The hat is a matte finish and the black paint looks a little mottled in places. The Black nodder girl and boy in my opinion don't exactly nod, they actually just move a little when they are touched. That's the way it was designed. This set would make a fantastic addition to any Black Americana, Historical or Salt & Pepper collection. I have placed a Reserve on this set as it is indeed a rare find. From a Smoke-Free Home!!!
