This is a very Rare Thermoplastic/Union case (sometimes called Gutta Percha) made to house a "Watch". It would be a presentation case for a watch to be given to a very important person. Made in the same style and motif as the Ambrotype and Daguerreotype cases meant to house images; this is one of the rare cases made specially for non-photographic images. You can see the velvet interior made for a watch with the opening in the ring for the watch winder stem. Case has the original silk pad on the inside of the lid. Case is in MINT condition with no cracks or chips. Is listed in Berg's book. The front cover of the case is actually a design of a watch in the center and 2 fobs and chains surrounding it. A beautiful case that I have only seen a couple times in my 30+ years of collecting and this one is in excellent condition. You won't find a better one. *Insurance will be required for this item at the buyers expense.
