Rare Ancient Bactrian Carnelian Bead Strand Afghanistan Album Album Album 60 0143 Ancient Bactrian Carnelian Bead Strand Afghanistan ~ ca. 2 nd Millennium BC Type of beads : genuine ancient Bactrian Carnelian beads Origin : The beads were excavated in Afghanistan (near the city of Balkh ) Age : ca. 2 nd millennium BC Total weight : approx. 18.7 grams Size of beads : assorted from approx. 3.5 mm to 11 mm diameter Length of strand : ca. 39 cm = 15.35 inches Perforation / hole : Assorted from 1 to 1.5 mm Condition : Excellent with ancient wear! T are no damages and no repairs. The age-acquired patina is untouched and original. Expected corrosion, minor chipping and surface wear are a consequence of age and extended burial. These beads are strung temporarily. The string used is new. History : Bactria is an ancient country lying between the mountains of the Hindu Kush and the ancient Oxus River and dates to circa the late 3 rd to the early 1 st millennium B.C . Bactria was the Greek name for the area of Bactra (modern Balkh , Afghanistan ) In the 1 st millennium B.C. and later, Bactria was especially important from about 600 B.C., serving for much of the time as a meeting place not only for overland trade between East and West but also for the crosscurrents of religious and artistic ideas.
