RARE and EARLY Van Briggle VASE - Experimental Glaze?

This is a RARE and BEAUTIFUL - EARLY - Van Briggle - Arts and Crafts Era vase. Approx. 4 inches in height, by 4 and 1/4th inches wide. The opening at the top is approx. 2 and 1/4th inches across. We have seen this style of Van Briggle vase before in several glaze colors including turquoise, green, blue/green, and even mulberry. THIS vase is UNIQUE in that the glaze is "mottled green" which includes a myriad of dark gray to black inclusions. (SEE PHOTOS BELOW) This may have been an EXPERIMENTAL glaze. We have not seen this glaze type on any other Van Briggle pieces.A further characteristic which makes this vase unusual is that the glaze seems to have completely covered the base of the piece, and was later ground off to reveal parts of the markings. VERY odd for a piece which was going to be sold to the public. The base is marked with the traditional Van Briggle logo, as well as the partial words "Van Briggle" "Colo. Spgs" and the number "654"... it takes VERY close inspection to see the markings. T are very likely two other numbers to the right and left of the logo, but they - like most of the rest of the markings - are obscured by the glaze. The markings indicate the manufacturing period of 1908-1911. The overall condition is excellent, with no chips or cracks. The interior walls show the buff color of the unglazed pottery. Very well molded piece. Don't miss your chance to own what could be a VERY RARE piece of Van Briggle.
