WITH A RARE AND LOVELY DUAL TIME WHITE DIAL AND A PRISTINE FUSEE MOVEMENT MADE IN BARNSLEY, YORKSHIRE. T ARE ONLY TWO WATCHMAKERS RECORDED IN BARNSLEY. THIS ONE IS SIGNED BY CHAS (Charles) FLETCHER. HE IS THE SON OF BARNSLEY'S ONLY NOTED CLOCKMAKER 'THOS (Thomas) FLETCHER. THIS IS A RARE ITEM INDEED, AND IT IS A WORKING HALF HUNTER VERGE FUSEE WHICH IS EVEN RARER!!CASE:This is a fantastic heavy solid silver two piece or what is known as a "pair case". It is in very condition for its 195 years of wear and tear. The bezel is in absolutely excellent condition showing only a couple of very, very slight nicks to its edge, but no dents at all!. The bezel shines superbly, after a light polish. The outside of the outer case shows some dings, and notably one deeper ding near to the button which opens the outer case. The inside rear of the case shows some slight scratching and a noticable mark to the case back, but is in good condition. It has an engraving which says ' Thos Shephard' , which would have been one of this items previous owners. The button to open the case to reveal the inner case works well, and still has its original metal spring. The hinges on the outer case are in absolutely first class order, showing no evidence of repair at all. The inner case is also in excellent order showing only some normal wear light surface scratching to its back. It is fully hall marked in two places on the inner case with the date mark for 1812, and assay marks for Birmingham England. The inside rear of the inner case is in fabulous condition. This totally original gentleman's solid silver pair case watch is stunning! The watch measures a large 5.3cms (53mm) in diameter. The watch and movement weigh 142.1 grams! Heavy!DIAL:This is a lovely white very rare true half hunter white porcelain dial. Its only flaw is that it has had a noticeable dial repair at 6 o'clock, and a couple of faint hairlines (see pics). Other than that this dial is in absolutely first class condition. It has two rows of numerals. One outer circle, to read when the watch front is opened, and another rare inner circle of numerals for reading when the front of the watch is closed. Both sets of numerals are Arabic in form, and are black painted. T is also an outer AND inner pair of minute tracks which are in excellent condition. The quarter hour markers are in the shape of 'Fleur de lys' design, and are in excellent condition. The hands are in very good condition, with what looks like a minute hand replacement at some stage. The fantastic " Bullseye " inner glass crystal looks original to the watch, and is in absolutely excellent condition, showing only a few slight marks, but no chips or cracks. This a real find for the lucky buyer.MOVEMENT:This is possibly one of the best Verge Fusee movements, that I have seen for some years. It is extremely rare, because of its engraving on the balance cock. Instead of the usual 'Grotesque' mask, it has a fantastic engraving of what looks like a Dragon or maybe a seahorse? on it. This is a sign of a quality movement. The movement is in absolutely pristine, and clean condition with minty blue steel screws. It is superbly finely engraved, and is fully signed by its maker. The movement is numbered by the watch maker, and is engraved "9817 The makers name is 'Chas Fletcher' of Barnsley. T is some fantastic engraving on this watch, and if you are a watch lover like me, I can stare at it for hours watching the beautiful balance rocking to and fro. Everything about this movement feels right to me. This is a sign of a quality movement, and is very rare. The movement is running superbly, and I have checked the time keeping over the last 24 hours. Amazingly for a watch of this age and type it h...
