Rare & Collectible Antique 1907 Cut Crystal Ice Bucket With Tabs This cut glass from the past is an elegant Rare Collectible 1907 Cut Crystal Ice Bucket With Tabs. It is designed with floral cutting, engraved matte flowers with cut leaves and centers of fine hobnail. 21 hobnail cut octagons cover base. It is 5 1/4 in. diameter on the bottom; approx. 6 in. inside dia. at the opening. The glass is approx. 3/8 in. thick making the outer dia. 6 3/8 in. The bucket is 3 1/2 in. high; the tabs measure 5 in. high from the bottom. The AMERICAN CUT AND ENGRAVED GLASS 1994 book pictures a nearly identical ice bucket with tabs, priced at $300 - $375 detailed as follows: "The ice bucket with tabs is less common than the ice tub. The hobnail bottom makes it superior. Floral cutting indicates the transitional years circa 1907." "A Good Housekeeping article of 1899 stated that bowls for cracked ice, larger than medium-sized finger bowls, were placed at intervals around the table. 'A spoonful of ice is put in each glass and water from the carafe or jug is poured in.'" The book also states that at the turn of the century, retailers asked manufactures not to put markings or tags on cut glass as the retailer wanted their own tags and logos.
