Rare Antique #2 Jenny & Manning School Bell
For your bidding pleasure we are showing this awesome #2 Jenny and Manning cast iron School Bell. This bell was removed from the old one room school house in 1954 to keep it safe from theft. My father remembered ringing this bell in the 20's. Many bells were stolen for scrap, which was strange because the bells were worth more than the scrap. Many of these bells were lost when this practice was sweeping the nation. The school was established in 1889 and but sadly burnt down in 1967. Photos show this bell in place as early as 1907 but local historians date it back to the schools beginning. Jenny and Manning Bell Works was located in Washington and produced large church and school tower bells. This Large, 16 inch diameter school house bell, has the ring that crystal metal was known for. A huge clapper the size of a baseball was typical of bells produced in the 1800's. Unrestored yet in wonderful shape, this bell has many more years of life. This is a number 2 bell and weighs in at almost 50 lbs. Review the photos we have supplied and please check out our other listings while your at it.
