This is a RARE antique circa 1859 silver brass metal french dual stanhope "Cinematographe bijou" charm or pendant in the form of a book with dual stanhopes showing a lady in a bathtub Note: This example has two separate stanhope Images. One:Woman in tub By pressing the button down the view is changed and the lady appears to suddenly appear out of tub. In perfect condition no chips or dings and no dents. Measures 5/8" by 6/8" without bale 1" long with bale and handle. Back of charm: CINEMATOGRAPHE BIJOU DEPOSE. This will be your most loved charm. When wearing will be noticed and amuse all. The stanhope named after Lord Charles Stanhope, an English scientist (1753-1816) invented the tiny glass rod lens. In 1859 the first microfilm patent was issued to Rene Dagron a French photographer, Dagron saw a stanhope lens and conceived the idea of affixing a micro image to the lens.
