A magnificent antique (circa 1900...possibly earlier) carved elephant ivory sculpture. The carving is of an empress on a horse, with two attendants. The empress is dressed in flowing robes, with a phoenix bird hair ornament, and dangling earrings. One attendant is carrying a chest, and the other a peacock feather fan. The fan is removable, and is the only portion of the carving that is seperate. The rest of the carving is entirely one segment of a very large elephant tusk. This is such an impressive piece, with absolutely amazing detail. The pictures capture alot, but 12 photos were really not enough. If t are parts you would like to see better, please email me and I will send additional photos. The sculpture is mounted on it's original carved wood base, which is intricately inlaid with silver wire....this was only done for the finest pieces (possibly imperial). This piece is in excellent condition. T are a few surface age cracks, and one larger one at the base....none affect the integrity of this magnificent piece. The enire piece including base measures approx. 12 3/4" high X 6 1/2" wide X 5 3/4" deep....the ivory itself measures 10 1/8" high X 6" wide X 5 1/4" deep. This would be a welcome addition to any Asian art/antiques collection!
