RARE ANTIQUE VICTORIAN GUTTA PERCHA MORNING LOCKETThis is a rare, LARGE (2.5" long) Antique, Victorian Gutta Percha Mourning locket from the mid to late 1800's. Gutta Percha is the sap from Maylasian trees which can be molded and carved. This very old, fine Antique Morning Locket has a raised flower bouquet design carved onto the front of the locket and t is a very detailed carved flower design on the inside of the locket as well. The Gutta Percha is a deep, rich brown color. The back is plain and smooth. It is over 2" tall, not including the bale and 1 3/4" wide. The inside of the locket appears to contain the original photo on the right side and t may have been hair of the deceased on the other side. The frames are missing from the inside. The locket shuts well and stays shut from the weight of the locket. (it does not appear to have ever had a clasp to snap shut-it just stays shut from the shape and weight. The hinge is original. The locket came with a black satin ribbon which may or may not be original. A chain can easily be added in its place. T is a small amount of damage (two small chips) around the hinge but the hinge is secure and the chips can not be seen when wearing the locket. This locket is in excellent condition for its age. Just a lovely old locket to add to a collection. Please email me any questions before you bid
