Hi, and welcome to my auction for this rare antique Wedgwood cameo pin that is mounted in 14K gold and dates back to the mid-19th century. It comes in a velvet box with "Josiah Wedgwood" printed inside. Am not certain if it is original but very well could be. The pin measures 1 3/4" wide by 2 1/4" long - it's a nice generous size!! Beautiful cornflower blue porcelain with a classical mythological figure of Diana holding a cornucopia - horn of plenty signifying abundance. She is beautifully draped in flowing robes and flanked by two lions on either side. The gold rope frame has delicate decorative beading along the edges. T are some hallmarks on the backside of the frame which I can't decipher, however, it does test positive for 14K gold. The secure closure was added later - which makes this piece all the more safe when worn. This handsome pin is in pristine condition. Wedgwood jewelry was first producted 200 years ago and became quite popular in the 18th and 19th centuries when cameos were produced for pins, pendants, broches etc. Most of the classical reliefs applied today are reproductions of original antique pieces. This piece is original to the 19th century - It is not a newer reproduction which are so abundantly common.
