Welcome and thank you for visiting Sweet Home Chicago Antiques!
We are offering for auction from our personal collection a rare apricot colored satin glass brides basket bowl which was made during the Victorian era. The condition is excellent. The only issue I can find is some (normal and expected) wear to the gilt. That's it. I want to comment that the photos don't exactly reflect the true color of the bowl. I hate to risk "shocking" antique glass in cold weather, so I took these photos indoors. But I've left a few slots blank, an will try to add more photos of this piece taken outdoors to try to give you a better idea. The color is not the regular rosy peachblow. This glass is more of a soft, apricot-salmon color cased to white opal glass. I know that it looks quite reddish in the pictures. Both layers of glass are sufficiently thin that you can see your hand behind the bowl when it's held to the light. The coloring is absolutely beautiful, and the resonant tone the glass emits speaks to the quality from which it was produced. The interior has been decorated in the manner which looks to be a cherry or plum tree. The prunus designs were quite popular with both the Mt. Washington and Webb glass houses, and can be readily seen in any good reference book. The "dots" which adorn each of the tightly crimped outer ruffles were all applied by hand. They are not uniform and they are beautiful. This is a double-crimped bowl with a frosted crest adorning the rim. T are no chips, cracks, flakes or signs of repair at all. The outside casing is in need of a cleaning. I use a paste made from Bon Ami powder and water for this chore, and I will try to tend to this bowl before it is shipped. Overall the bowl spans 8.00 inches, and has a width of about 6.00 inches. The height is about 3.00 inches. The apricot satin glass bowls are much more rare than the rosy peachblow styles. We're offering this beauty with No Reserve, and we hope it finds a good home. Feel free to email any questions or requests, but do try to do so before the final hours of the auction so that we have time to answer back. PLEASE review our policies Before bidding, so t are no misunderstandings at the conclusion of this sale. Your business is very much appreciated. We pack carefully and ship fast. This antique bowl will be shipped double-boxed to ensure safe transport. Insurance is required, and delivery tracking is included. International bidders are quite welcome, but do keep in mind that shipments outside the U.S. are sent via Global Express or EMS without exception. In addition, we only accept PayPal for International shipments. The listing process is ongoing, so be sure to check out our other items and Have Fun! I have just included two additional photos which come closer to the true color of this bowl. Also, I forgot to include the measurement for the base or foot. It is approximately 3.50 inches diameter. Many thanks to my eBay friends for bringing that to my attention! ;-)
