Up for bids is a rare Arcade Manufacturing Company TELEPHONE MILL, circa 1897 to 1918. Several important inventions by the Morgan Brothers in the late 1800's enabled the company to introduce a variety of attractive canister wall mills around the turn of the century. These included their Telephone Mills, which could be fastened to a wall or shelf. Several different versions were made from the 1890's to the 1920s. The Telephone Mill was the most popular version of Arcade's wall/shelf mills, with a bronzed iron front and marked with 1888, 1890 and 1893 patent dates, and is the most sought after of all Arcade coffee mills. While t were basically 3 different versions of the Telephone Mill, nevertheless, they were all covered by patents number 390, 184; 425, 816; and 495, 099. This mill was made for either coffee or spices; held one pound; to be fastened to a wall or shelf; hardwood; cast iron front; all parts, other than iron front, are nickel plated; front is of Arcadian bronze finish. The coffee mill that I am offering is in GREAT condition with the catch cup (for coffee collection) and screw top in tact. The writing on the front (to the best that I can read) of the mill says, "Patented Sept 25 88, April 1590, April 11 93, Arcade MFG CO, Freeport, ILL" T are eight (8) holes in the backboard: 4 for mounting on the wall, 4 for shelf/counter read more
