Yes, this is Bakelite! Most Bakelite bangles that you see listed as "end of day" pieces are not really "end of day" Bakelite at all- they are colors that w marbled together on purpose, to make a gaudy marbled bangle. True "end of day" Bakelite will show random patches of color, as this bracelet does. Companies that manufactured Bakelite used to save scrap material and cast small objects at the end of the day, just like glass companies. Usually, the scrap material was made into a bangle tube or another small object. To prove that this is Bakelite, I have included a photo of a small plate that says "BAKELITE" on the bottom- this plate shows similar patchy coloration to the bangle that is listed for sale (the little plate is not for sale and not included in the auction!). This bangle shows patches of black, light leaf green, tan, and brown Bakelite. This is a very unusual and very, very rare bangle- in fact, it is absolutely a one-of-a-kind piece! It measures ¾" wide by 3/8" thick. The inner diameter is 2-1/2". Over the past ten years, I had collected about eight bangles in this type of "end of day" Bakelite; I am selling the last two this week on Ebay! This bracelet is in excellent, shiny condition; with no chips, cracks, fractures, hot pin marks, or burn marks. The bangle absolutely tests positive as Bakelite (phenol formaldehyde or phenolic resin) using Simichrome and warm water. For more info on Bakelite testing facts and myths, please click the "me" icon next to my Ebay ID name. I am lucky to have a father who was a polymer chemist and specialist for the Xerox Corp. for over 35 years. My father is one of the nation's foremost specialists on polymers, and he helps me to identify vintage plastics- I guarantee this bangle to be vintage Bakelite (phenol formaldehyde or phenolic resin). This is not Lucite, Celluloid, "Fakelite," French Bakelite, or any other type of new polymer. It is not a newly constructed piece made from vintage Bakelite stock. I have been selling some of my Bakelite jewelry collection so that I can buy more Bakelite and Celluloid buttons. Please take a look at the other Bakelite bracelets that I have up on Ebay this week, and please feel free to email with any questions.
