Rare Art Nouveau Sterling Water Pitcher by Dominick & Half, c1880-1900 History & Context The well-regarded firm of Dominick & Half was known for its manufacture of quality sterling silver from 1872 to 1928, when it was finally acquired by the well-known firm of Reed & Barton. D & H traces its origins to Mr. William Gale and his successor firms. Henry Blanchard Dominick and Leroy B. Haff, the founding partners, were bookkeepers for the Gale retail department store from 1867 to closing in 1869. In 1880, Dominick & Haff purchased the flatware dies of Adams & Shaw, which included those of John R. Wendt & Co. and its successors.
