Amazing Rare Australian Pottery Aboriginal Face Plaque - Workmans Model c.1900 This Rare Australian Pottery Aboriginal Face Plaque is the first of its kind I have seen. It has remarkable detail and realistic features. The rich light and dark brown contrasting colours give the figure a real life like appearance. The figure is particularly heavy and appears to be a one off piece. The rear is also glazed and has very old dirt deposits. T is no damage at all and the only imperfection is a firing crack (see photos) that is along one of the hair fold lines. The plaque is signed or marked MELBURNE (note incorrect spelling). I am not sure whether this is a signature, name or mis-spelled Melbourne. It is a truely remarkable and detailed piece and would be a wonderful addition to any Australiana collection, be it pottery or other.
