A very rare gunpowder or medicinal magic horn from Sumatra. Unusually early, mid Nineteenth century probably. It is from the Toba Batak people I believe. It is made out of dark amber colored horn finely inlaid with brass and mother of pearl. Much of the pearl is missing. It originally had a steel or brass stopper like a powder horn and a plug at the base. It has a suspension toggle and stylized human or animal heads. It has a carved plaque to seal the end of the horn of course. Its profile reminds me of a gunstock but also a boat which was a popular motif. A rare early tribal piece from Indonesia. From a San Francisco estate. Approx 11 x 4 inches. $7.50 U.S. shipping, International buyers pays actual shipping, Ca buyers pay Ca sales tax. Thanks, see my other auctions. Toradja , Nias , sepik , dayak, kalimantan new guinnea , Bali, oceanic art weapon club sword
