This is a very rare Stanley Bronze No 101 Block Plane. Bronze and Aluminum Stanley No 101 planes were not listed in catalogs at the time, but they appeared as Stanly experimented with various metals in their plane line. THe Aluminum planes were advertised as "rust proof" but cost 25% more and the few Bronze planes cost over 50% more...both during the Great Depression, which is why they didn't sell well. This plane is 3 1/2 inches long and has a 1 inch wide cutter with an early Stanly logo. The plane body is a super 98%+ nic e casting and thecutter is shiny clean and sharp, and the plane bottom is mirror smooth for serious use. Unfortunately, some idiot drilled a hang hole in the bottom or this plane would be a top dollar item. Still, it is a rare find. The No 101 Block Plane was made for small craftsman work, and was very handy for working in restricted areas or on small projects such as making musical instruments. This plane came from a special collection of Stanely 101 Block Planes that I was lucky to find. I want it to go to a true woodworker who will put it to the good use that it was made for or a serious Stanley plane collector.
