Rare ROUGE POT Staffordshire England It is transfer printed in deep brown and finished with a pearlware glaze. The lid is decorated in a Romantic scene that depicts ancient Rome or Greece, with men in the foreground and ruins, pillars, and dome shaped buildings in the background. The border trim wraps around the side of the lid and extends down to the side of the base. The base is in great condition with just a few tiny nibbles along the rim, consistent with age. The base has been broken into two pieces and carefully reglued. T is chipping along the inside rim of the base and a few tiny nibbles along the outer rim. No other chips, cracks, or repairs. Condition is definitely forgiveable given the rarity of the form, and needs no excuses. Utterly charming and quite a find for any collector of rare transferware forms and unusual pot lids. Offered as is, a fabulous little piece to start or finish a collection! We have listed other early advertising wares and utilitarian pottery, along with a festive array of children's transferware, We are always happy to combine shipping of multiple purchases.
