VERY RARE Brown & Yellow Sleepy Eye Stoneware Pitcher
T is unusual. T is scarce. T is RARE! Having owned over a hundred pieces of Sleepy Eye over the years, this is the very last piece I'm letting go. It just doesn't fit into my other collections. This was purchased at a farm sale in Northern Michigan some 30 years ago...and definitely falls under the RARE category. This is a #4 brown on yellow 8âe pitcher. As you are probably aware, the Sleepy Eye Milling Company of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, used the 19th century Indian chief with the drooping eyelid on many of its advertising premiums...the pottery being made by Western Stoneware, Weir Pottery Company and assorted other companies. The company, which began in 1883, closed in 1921. Original pitchers came in five sizes, this one being the second largest. A year ago, getting this pitcher out to place on sale, I hit the lip of the pitcher and a portion of it was broken off. It was a clean break and I had it professionally repaired...and, if I had not told you, you would never have noticed the repair. It is excellent. For shipping in the US, add twenty bucks...outside the US, appropriately more. And like all my Dimpled Dog auctions, the dog guarantees a full refund if notified within three days of receiving your purchase. Happy bidding. You won't want to miss this baby!! (And yes, we looove checks!) As an FYI, according to Kovels, a brown and yellow 8âe pitcher (#4) sold in 2001 for $1600.00. In 2003, a 9âe brown and yellow pitcher (#5) sold for $3,600.00. The reserve is nominal. DimpledDog normally doesn't like to do reservesâe¦.and usually if t is a reserve, it's only to recoup the amount the pup originally paid for the itemâe¦so he can reinvest it in another. It's his very own form of moderation! (or perhaps it might be called an addiction?) Anyway, every effort has been made to keep the reserve as low as possible. And sometimes, when the listed items fails to reach its reserve, the pup give the higher bidder the first right of refusalâe¦.like a nice little doobie! Feel Free to email with questions regarding this item. Good Luck Bidding! Shipping & Packaging (for the lower 48 states): $20.00 Payment arrangements are to be made within 48 hours of auction closing. The free listing tool.
