RARE CANADA COMPASS QUART From a private collection comes one of Canada's rarest and much sought after jars. This is the 'CANADA COMPASS' jar in the quart size. This extremely primitive jar from the east coast is nicely embossed with 'CANADA (arched in upper case lettering) / a large N.E.S.W . Made of heavy construction, the glass in this jar is extremely primitive and is filled with countless minute air bubbles giving some parts of it a vaseline appearance. The only defect in this jar (if it is a defect) is a burst air bubble on the front of the jar between the 'A' and 'N' in 'CANADA'. This unique jar comes with a crude ground lip which is about perfect as can be for these maritime jars. In addition, t are the usual minor nibbles around the outside edge common to jars of this era and manufacture. As an added bonus, this jar comes with the proper lid for this Compass jar and is matching in colour as well. This quart jar stands about 7 1/4 inches tall and measures about 3 3/4 inches across the base. These Canada Compass jars were made by the Lamont Glass Company in Trenton, Nova Scotia from 1890-1898.
