is an incredible pair of Carnival Stretch Glass Candle Holders by an unknown company. They were made to emulate the look of Carder, Tiffany and Steuben glass in about 1920. In this case black glass was treated, while it was still hot, with metallic salts. It was then stretched to give it the characteristic stretch marks and then re-irridized. This pair is a very stunning 8" tall and has incredible lustrous colors. The heavy glass has a 5" in diameter base. T are no chips or cracks. You may never see another set as remarkable as these.
Carnival Glass is made by fuming or spraying hot pressed glass with metallic oxides. This forms an irridescent coating on the surface of the glass that reflects the colors of the rainbow. It is similar to the effect of oil on a puddle of water. Photographs can't totally reproduce the effect of light hitting the glass. As a longtime Antique Dealer I have collected a lot of glass. I would never keep anything but the best examples for my own collection. See my other auctions for more great Carnival Glass pieces. Please email with any questions. Note: I do not bill for insurance coverage. It is completely optional to the buyer. I do package very carefully and include delivery confirmation. However, once the item is given to the shipper, I can no longer be responsible for its arrival. Insurance, though not required, is recommended. I have had several people email me to confirm that these are Dugan Mae West pattern in a rare color of black glass. Thanks!
