Rare Chinese Late Neolithic Age Jade "Bi" Description This very high quality natural old jade "Bi" was well polished and with a sharp blade - undoubtedly an outstanding work of the Jade Age, the handwork is very wonderful as shown from the pictures. It' s a very nice item for home decoration , the decent gift and the indispensable antiquity collection. Approx Size (cm) 18.0 x 18.0 x 1.0 Material Jade Origin China During the first phase of the "Chinese Neolithic Period (c.5000 - 2500 BC)" , called Yang-shao after the first associated site, farmer employed primitive techniques of cultivation, shifted their villages as the soils became exhausted, and lived in semi-subterranean houses in the region of modern central Shanxi, southwestern Shanxi, and western Henan provinces. During second, or Lung-shan, phase (c.2500 - 1000 BC) agriculture became more advanced. Farmers lived in more permanent settlements and began a wide-spreading culture expansion into the eastern plains, Manchuria, and Central and South China. Lung-shan farmers worshipped their ancestors, a Chinese custom that still persists. The term "jade" and the Chinese term "yu" are often used to designate a variety of stones and glossy materials. Their use should, however, be limited to jadeite and nephrite. Nephrite belongs to the amphibole group
