Your are looking at a civil war period cavalry or artistry drivers valise. I found similar photo of one in a civil war collectors book as shown in one of my photos. Valise in what I would say in decent to good condition is missing the leather straps that hold the lid down also missing ring on one end as show in one of the photos. Leather is in good condition no rips or tears the cloth hinge that holds the lid in place needs to be sewn back on but is all t Valise is about 18" long, 7" wide and 7" tall. I would say these are quite rare piece you just don't see them around much anymore. They will be no resever on this. Happy Bidding, Questions Welcomed.
