Very unique item in cut glass. It is different from colored cut to clear peices. In cut to clear the color glass is formed over the clear glass then the color is cut through by the wheel to reveal the clear glass. a gather or cranberry glass is joined to a gather of clear glass then blown. The effect is cranberry at the top and then fading w the two meet and then ending in clear glass. Quite a spectacular effect in cut glass. Very seldom seen. I have an identical humidor to this one in my personal collection.
Nice heavy blank. The cutting is very pleasant and typical of many cutting houses but difficult to pin down the exact one. This is often the case with colored glass. For some odd reason colored glass was seldom done in known patterns. None the less is it a beautiful and exotic piece. The lid is sterling silver and marked STERLING M 925/1000. It has beautiful repousse floral designs on the top. The humidor measures 6 1/2 inches tall and is 5 1/2 inches diameter. It is in excellent condition. No chips or flakes to glass. Silver is inexcellent condition also. Fluoresces under blacklight to show American Brilliant (1876-1916). Each winning item is carefully packaged for safe delivery. Generally most fragile items are double boxed with packing in between the boxes. This is the only proper packing method for cut glass.
