"Pate de Verre" rare material that dates back thousands of years to ancient Egyptian who used it to fashion small objects, such as pearl and charms in an attempt to imitate precious stones Daum crystal are elaborated In the process of "lost wax" which is made of crushed crystal, colored by various metallic oxides that are mixed and poured in a moulds - lost wax moulds taken from sculpted models , and then placed in a furnace and brought up to extremely high temperatures for ten days. This binds and vitrifies the mixture and once cooled, the mould is broken open revealing the Tran lucidity, which comes the charm unique to this art form. Daum has been synonymous with creativity in the art of glassmaking since 1878 Uncontested Masters of Art Nouveau, the artists and craftsmen of Daum have had a lasting influence on the Art Deco and contemporary art movements. Hilton McConnico is a designer and artist who was born in Memphis, Tennessee but has lived and worked in Paris since 1965. After working in fashion for such designers as Ted Lapidus and Yves St. Laurent, he was set designer & art director for more than 20 films, including the cult classic "Diva." In 1990 Memphis Brooks Museum of Art held a retrospective of 30 years of his creations.His collaboration with Daum crystal began in 1987; some of his "Cactus" creations for the manufacturer were presented by former French President François Mitterrand to President George H.
