RARE DORFLINGER CUT GLASS SALAD SET, GLORIA PATTERN - This beautiful cut glass salad set was made by C. Dorflinger and Sons of White Mills, Pennsylvania sometime before 1906. It is cut in Dorflinger's rare and seldom seen Gloria pattern. Feller, in "Dorflinger, America's Finest Glass, 1852-1921", shows the same salad set on page 239 and I have included a picture of this same set from page 84 of the American Cut Glass Association's Dorflinger Line Drawings Catalogue. The tray or underplate measures 11-1/2 inches in diameter and 1 inch tall. The rolled rim bowl is 8-1/2 inches in diameter and 3-1/4 inches tall. Both are cut on thick, incredibly clear blanks and have been hand polished to that silky finish you only find on early American Brilliant cut glass. The tray is cut on a 5/8 inch thick blank and the bowl and tray together weigh 10 pounds. Both are in excellent condition with no chips or flakes. T are a few light scratches and one tiny pinhead sized nick on the surface of the tray. Salad sets are among the rarest forms of American Brilliant cut glass and one by Dorflinger cut in such a beautiful pattern is even more rare. It is some much nicer than the pictures show. It will be a great addition to even the best cut glass collection. Satisfaction guaranteed.
