From a recent local estate, you are bidding on a remarkable Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Bowl with Silver Rim. Produced in 1876/77, and decorated by the famous Hannah Barlow, this is a very special piece. Doulton was known chiefly for its utilitarian stoneware and earthenware until about 1871, when students of the Lambeth School of Art began decorating Doulton salt-glazed brown stoneware. The students' work may be considered not only a source of renewed interest in ornamental stoneware but also the first noteworthy example of artist-pottery in England. Hannah Barlow and her brother and sister, Arthur and Florence , along with Frank Butler, Emily Edwards, and George Tinworth were among the artists who worked in the Doulton studio. The practice was continued into the 20th century, and it led to the development of similar projects at other English potteries. This stunning bowl is in MINT CONDITION!!!! It measures 7 1/2" diameter at the silver rim, 9" diameter at the girth, and measures 4 1/2" tall overall. Silver rim is excellent, and bowl is perfect with the exception of a very small flea bite on the bottom of the footed rim. Salt glaze is even and very shiny. Incised rabbits and decorative leaves are sharp and very detailed. Applied flowers and beaded decoration is even and in mint condition. Interior of the bowl shows no staining or use. Even the bottom is shiny and shows almost no wear at all! The condition of this bowl is FANTASTIC!!! I guarantee you will not be disappointed or your money back! If you collect Doulton Lambeth Stoneware decorated by Hannah Barlow, this is a museum piece. Don't miss bidding! Please refer to the pictures for details.
