I attended a very high end estate sale recently and was lucky enough to acquire some very rare pieces of Staffordshire flow blue. These came out of a mansion in Pennsylvania which boasted Tiffany lamps, quality furniture, Limoges china, etc., etc. This very early large handled lidded sugar bowl is so majestic! Stands 6.5" to the top of the finial on lid and is 7.75" from handle to handle. Gorgeous deep cobalt blue flowers (maybe peonies?) in a basket with tiny dots in the background on both sides. Words cannot describe this breathtaking piece of history! Unusual incised mark on bottom which reads Adams Staffordshire Warranted with what looks like an eagle in center. Also a blue mark, maybe the artist? and an incised cross. I was told this was Clews. Slightly scalloped rim with curved sides and the beaded design. Lid has two chips as seen in photo and a hole for venting. You will also see how the blue has flowed over to the inside edge! Amazing condition considering this is probably over 175 years old! My research tells me this was probably made in the early 1800's. Please be sure to check out my similar patterned handleless cup with a mother, father, and child in cradle scene. Another rarity! Offered at low starting bid with no reserve. I will be away from my computer from 2/3-2/7 and will answer all emails upon my return before the auction ends. Thanks for your understanding. Positive feedback left for every successful transaction! Check out my other items ! Be sure to add me to your favorites list !
