This is a rare set of glass and metal tubes from early medical quack kit. The tubes were inserted into a hand-held plugged-in base and would glow and spark, and give a tingling feeling to the subject when applied to the skin. Since the bulbs are not broken or damaged in any way, we assume that most or all of them would still work if inserted into the standard apparatus. Quack medical kits were intended to impress patients and convince them they would be aided or cured by the device. Quack "doctors" sold these "treatments" to patients as cures for a wide variety of ills. In this set of fake medical instruments, most of the glass devices, when inserted into the electric wand, light up, and when touched against the skin, light brighter and produce a tingling effect. And is a wonderful example of the the quack medical devices used by doctors in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The set consists of 8 odd-shaped glass objects ranging from 5 1/2" inches to 9 1/2 inches, 4 smaller glass attachments (2" or so), metal cylinder, a rubber ball thingy and a piece of black cloth. All in great shape. Comes in a leattte (?) case, and makes a great gift for a med student or doctor--would look great mounted on an office wall! A rare find in this condition! Selling with NO RESERVE! Need any more pics or have any questions, please ask. Thanks for looking!
