RARE Georgian 'Tunbridge' Rosewood and Tulipwood Banded Deed Box C 1800 This is a rare early Deed or Table box from the Georgian period, veneered Rosewood, banded in Tulipwood and inlaid to the top in a geometric diamond pattern. Its dimensions are: 13.5 x 11 x 5.5 inches approximately In excellent condition throughout the vacant interior has been lined using a superior quality hand marbled stationery paper The exterior is veneered in a thick Rosewood and is strung with Ebony to each edge. It is banded in Tulipwood to each side including the back and Inlaid to the centre of the top is the geometric 'Tunbridge' design which is composed of alternating strips of Mahogany and Boxwood arranged in a diamond formation.T is a Boxwood boat shaped escutcheon to the lock area but unfortunately no key. T are solid brass lions mask carrying handles to each side and a thin strip of Boxwood stringing running the full length of the base. All things considered this is a rare early Tunbridge box, good looking inside and out and of large proportions, affording ample storage space.
