Circa: 1885. Up for auction is one of the rarest versions of this Gilbert / Eureka Clock Co. Calendar Ogee Clock I have ever seen, in as found condition. These were made to be sold in the Southern Market after the Civil War. Oh Boy Did the South hate the North after the war. As a result several companies Made calendar clocks but changed t names to appeal to the South. New Haven called t clocks, National, or Standard. Seth Thomas used the name Fashion Calendar clock. But Gilbert was very creative with t Calendar OG's. They used several names Southern Clock Company, Southern Calendar clock Company, Davis Clock Company. and this the rarest I have ever seen Eureka Clock Company, Paris France. This was to really make sure it was not a American Clock at all. I wonder if these were sent to France and sold t as well, Probably they were, amazing since the French made the finest clocks in the world at this time. This Fake name was also to appeal to the very wealthy market and French clocks were famous all over the world especially in Amercian at this time. Rare label indeed. Okay, How rare is this clock and it really needs attention and restoration.
