Rare Five Dynasties Lotus Pod Jar and Lid Allen's Antiques Ltd 10 DAY AUCTION We do not accept PayPal on this item. DESCRIPTION: A rare Five Dynasties period lidded Lotus Pod Jar, over 1000 years old. The outside decorated in relief with eight large flower petals to the main body, with a further eight smaller petals overlapping the lower part of the larger petals. The lid also has a raised petal design with a centre finial & a triangle & circle design carved into the underside. These jars were allegedly recovered from an abandoned monastery near Kunming in Yunnan province in the south of China. To date over 2,000 jars of differing designs have been recovered, two of which (not this one) I have had T.L. tested by Oxford Authentication Ltd in England. SIZE: 250mm (10inches) high CONDITION: Some expected degradation, losses, abrasions, and possible restoration, as a consequence of extended burial and subsequent cleaning. A good clean would display this jar beautifully. Please see photos. DATING: Five Dynasties (907 to 960 A.D.) COMMENT: This is an excellent example of the ancient Chinese potter's craft. Compare this jar with one Sanskrit inscriptions offered at a fair in New York earlier last year, the British Antiques Trade Gazette reporting an asking price of $US3,000.
