This is a rare and lovely old Japanese print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi 1797-1861 which was framed by Albert Roullier Art Galleries in Chicago years ago. I do not know that much about art so contacted the in England after checking their web site. I am grateful to William Pearl for taking the time to respond with the following information: "The print is by Kuniyoshi. It shows the wife of Onodera Junal with her legs bound in preparation for seppuku. It is from the series, Stories of Faithful Hearts and True Loyalty, and dates from 1848." T are labels on the backing which is quite tattered dating the print between 1812-1861 and KUNIYOSHI. The framed print measures 16 1/4" x 21 3/4". The print showing is 9 1/2" x 14". The print which is beautifully detailed has an aged patina and appears to have been rolled or folded prior to framing years ago; t is some age discoloration around the edge of the mat which is to be expected. This print would be a unique addition to any collection or make a fantastic gift. Please email with questions. Item guaranteed as described. Buyer pays ship/ins. Thanks for checking out our auction. Have a nice day.
