* 1940's General Electric ~ Model X-216A * CABINET: When I got this radio about 60% of the original finish was worn off so unfortunately a refinishing was in order. The good news is the cabinet is solid with no veneer damage and in excellent condition. This fairly rare GE radio dates to 1939,1945,or 1947 depending on what sources you go by. The 1st detail that really got my attention with this classic design was the impressive pillar like sides and the gorgeous multi-walnut veneers used throughout. In the 20+ years I've been in the radio business this is some of the nicest walnut grains I've ever seen and with the bookmatched crossfire cut strip w the knobs are located it's every bit as nice as an Ingraham made cabinet. Since 1987 I've been collecting,restoring,& refinishing antiques & collectibles such as tube radios,victorian furniture,victrola's,and many other classic items from the past. And Although I use different refinishing techniques such as hand-rubbed lacquer,Tung Oil,Satin,& Antique Refinishing Oil....I really wanted to give this classic a nice natural antique finish,so I decided on what I use when restoring victorian furniture,wood instruments,or gun stocks for local antique dealers.
