This is a German WWII long dress bayonet and scabbard made by a rare and famous manufacturer. The chromed blade is 9 5/8" long with the bayonet being 14 3/8" long overall. It doesn't look like it's been sharpened but it may have been very lightly because t are a number of very light scratches near the edge. The rest of the blade is excellent with the exception of the usual runner marks near the tip from being taken in and out of the scabbard. The left side of the tang bears the manufacturer's logo and name, "E. Pack & Sohne" "Solingen" on two lines below their trademark of a 16th century workman swinging what looks like an axe over his head. I tried to take a picture of it a couple of dozen times but none turned out very good because the blade is much too shiny. E. Pack was known for producing high quality knives and bayonets. The blade still retains its original leather washer at the tang. The guard and pommel both retain 99% of their original chrome and both have a number of very light scratches. The press stud has been replaced withone that does not match - it is darker and does not function. I imagine the original stud was removed at the end of the war as part of the crippling of German military weapons and Germany's ability to wage war. Thank goodness for the G.I's who rescued the ones that still exist and brought them back to the U.S.! The black checked plastic or bakelite grips are perfect, of excellent quality and are held together with the original nuts and washers. The black scabbard is in excellent condition retaining 99% of its original paint. The only paint missing is on a area of the frog stud and from some light scratches. Additionally, it is dent- and ding-free with the exception of one pencil-point ding on the edge. Despite the very light scratches and the replaced press stud, this is still a very nice extremely well-made example of German weaponry as well as being manufactured by one of the country's premier manufacturers. Without those 2 imperfections, this bayonet would easily be worth $200! Of course, it won't bring that in its present state but this is your chance to own a rare piece of German WWII history - don't let it get away - bid early and bid often!
