For your consideration, an original oban size Japanese woodblock print titled "Golden Pagoda of Rangoon", from the "India & Southeast Asia" Series by Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950). Please view the following pictures, my apologies for the poor images but keep in mind that the photos were taken through non glare glass. I purchased this shin hanga print from a reputable dealer about 10 years ago and it has been custom matted and framed. The framer was profesional, and expensive so I'm sure that he did it properly. Please do not ask me to remove it from the frame to expose the back. Hiroshi titled and signed it in English on the bottom margin in pencil. He signed, dated and sealed in kanji (Japanese characters) with sumi ink on the left margin. The jizuri seal which can be translated as "self printed" an indication that the artist himself approved of the quality of the print, is stamped on the upper left margin, above the title and date. On the lower left side within the image, t's a brush signature with the artist's red seal indicating a first edition. Published in 1931. Image size (excluding the signed border) is approximately 9-5/8" x 14-3/4". Reference: Abe Publishing 'The Complete Woodblock Prints of Yoshida Hiroshi' #148.
fyi: Posthumous prints do not have the jizuri seal and are typically of slightly lesser quality and certainly less expensive (but still highly collectable). The restrikes have a stamped "block-signed", slightly impressed signature & title below the image, and unless closely examined, one would mistaken it for pencil. The stamp was created from a hand carved wooden copy of his written signature. Yoshida's often signed his prints in pencil on the bottom margin for the western market. When original prints lack this pencil signature, the value is not affected, it only means that they were probably intended for the home market.
