Beautiful Huanghuali Wooden Box and Scales
Country of Origin: China Format and Dimensions: Hand scales for weighing small objects. Length 13 inches; width 3 inches; height 0.4 inch. Description: Scales like this one were widely used in China for weighing small objects such as medicine herbs and precious metals. Content includes a wooden casing, a copper pan, a piece of copper counterweight, and the scales rod made of hard wood graduated with measurements in Chinese weight units. Missing are the original strings. What makes this scales unique is the "box" which is made with one of the most beautiful woods used in Chinese antique furniture and widely used in literary desk objects (Ming Dynasty). This wood is basically extinct now.
