For your consideration we offer you a wonderful Old 1870 Rare Ripley Illinois Stoneware Pottery Churn. This 3 gallon salt glazed blue decorated churn has been in a private collection of Avon, Illinois resident for 30 years and came from a Ripley, Illinois estate. This churn was made in the Ripley, Illinois area around 1860`s to 1880`s. The shape is very similar to the 2 gallon churn pictured in "Historic Illinois Potteries, Checklist of Illinois Potters and Potteries, by Eva Dodge Mounce" on page 34, plate 11, by Hughes. It is identical except for size and some of the decoration to a churn in a Illinois collection that is marked Mrs. Parks, Mt Sterling, Ills. The churn is in great condtion with some glaze flaking and a tight hairline. Otherwise a great piece of hard to find early blue decorated Illinois stoneware.
