Original old tomahawk or trade axe from 1970s estate auction in Greene County, Illinois. We travel nationwide to shop auctions looking for outstanding finds in several fields. Old, original items like this are becoming more and more scarce -- and high priced. Our collecting instincts must be controlled, however, and the time has come to disgorge some of our most treasured possessions. Otherwise, they will go to our children and eventually by sold by people knowing little or nothing of their true value. For serious collectors, this is your chance to own an authentically old, museum-quality Indian tomahawk. This haft appears old if not original and is decorated by tacks in 4 rows. I cleaned the very dirty handle some years back with mineral oil but left the old patina. The old iron head measures 9" long x 3 1/4" at the bit x 2" across the poll. Haft (19 1/2") has extreme use polish and age cracks near head and at grip. (See photos.) Head is secured by rosehead and cut nails w/ haft shrunk somewhat from poll -- but still rock solid. This item has been a centerpiece of my collection since the 1970s -- and I have always prized it for oustanding symmetry, overall character, and obvious age.
