Listing for auction is an old and very good rare puzzle box by Japanese master Katsuro Hutami who lived in Odewara and died on April 15th 1955. This is the information from Hakone Maruyama Inc. and I very much appreciate their input . He was known as a "skillful craftsman" to all who knew him. I myself wished I knew him because this puzzle box apparently has so many moves I gave up after 14 or so. My guess is it would take 20 or so , I did get close and someone else did manage to open yet I was not given the answer . I can tell you this puzzle box is probably from around 1930's with the Scottie Dogs as were popular then and I can assure you the work on this large box is of the highest quality I have known. To hold this masterpiece in your hand is a true wonder indeed , what my camera cannot display is the shiny wood somehow this master craftsman put into the water scene - just unreal. Mt Fuji water scene on one side and two Scottish Terriers on the other, sides have floral design. Very fine inlay work and you must hold this in your hands to really understand the entire quality of how long this box must have taken to make by hand. This is a masterpiece for sure. Very old patina yet in fine condition, good original finish that is nice and soft. This is a large box measuring 7 " long x 4 1/2 " wide and 3 " tall. ( 18 x 11.5 x 7.5 cm). , I promise you will love this antique puzzle box and I am positive it is a rare find . 10 day auction - reserve set far below value I do ship most worldwide at cost
