Flower Bud Vase Up for auction: this beautiful and definitely vintage Japanese Sumida Gawa oriental vase. The vase features a man in action after a snail. His clothing flows behind him. The top portion features a glossy flambe' glaze with four or more colors in a splashed application. The bottom a burnt red matte. The bottom: has some of the red has come off. If you are a serious collector of SUMIDA ART this is an easy restoration fix. The bottom mark and the embellished glazed plaque are pictured. The vase is in great condition with no chips or repairs or hairlines. The vase measures approx. 4.75 inches in height and approx. 2.8 inches across at its widest points. Item described to the best of my ability. ANY QUESTIONS, EMAIL ME!! AND Insurance required Identification: The mark is a signature, saying "Inoue Ryosai", Possibly Inoue Ryosai (1888-1971) who moved the manufacturing site to Yokohama in 1924. A great number of the pieces are probably the work of a single family - Inoue Ryosai I (1828-), Inoue Ryosai II (born c. 1860), and Inuoue Ryosai III (1888-1971.) Country: JapaneseProduction Date: UNKNOWNMeasurements: approximately 4.75 inches tall by 2.8 inches wide.Condition: in good condition with no repairs, cracks, or chips. Appears the be intact. Most pieces are everyday objects such as tea pots, vases, and mugs. This distinct type of wares got its name from the Sumida river running near the Asakusa pottery district near Tokyo. The style of applied figures on a surface with flowing glaze was invented about 1890 by the Seto potter Ryosai I , who worked in Tokyo from about 1875 to 1900. They are often embellished with glazed plaques with hand written signatures or general good luck symbols. A great number of the pieces are probably the work of a single family - Inoue Ryosai I (1828-), Inoue Ryosai II (born c. 1860), and Inuoue Ryosai III (1888-1971) who moved the manufacturing site to Yokohama in 1924.
